Equality Objectives: September 2016-2020

Objective 1:

  • To close the gaps of all disadvantaged groups at KS1 and KS2

Why?

  • To improve the life chances of children

  • To raise standards at St Joseph’s Catholic Federation

How will we address this?

  • Specific academic intervention by use of the Pupil Premium

  • Thorough identification and tracking of pupils in this group

  • Involving parents in understanding better the gaps in their child’s learning

Outcome:

  • Pace of progress is speedier

  • Pupils comment they like learning more

  • Evident through work in books that gaps are closing

  • Children are happy

Objective 2:

  • To close the gaps for the more able

Why?

Data shows the pace of progress for the more able has been slower than other groups

How will we address this?

  • Thorough identification and data tracking of more able pupils so gap analysis improved

  • Opportunities through the curriculum for the more able and talented

  • Links with other stakeholders to provide opportunities for the more able e.g. local primary and secondary schools/ introduce philosophy

  • Preparation for SATS working at greater depth

  • Academic mentoring and intervention

Outcome

  • Pace of progress is speedier

  • Creation of a programme of academic opportunities

Objective 3:

  • To close the gap for EAL learners

Why?

  • Data shows pupils with EAL particularly Spanish speakers at the first stages of learning English are making slower progress than other pupils

How will we address this?

  • EAL coordinator appointed

  • Specific intervention for EAL pupils at an early stage of learning English

  • Thorough identification and data tracking of EAL pupils

  • Regular opportunities for parents to meet

  • Mentoring pupils re: emotional well-being

Outcome

  • Increased attendance and participation in school life

  • Well-being monitored and child feels increasingly valued

  • Progress of pupils is improved
