Newsletter - Friday 26th May

We have had a fast paced half term. It feels like we have only just come back from Easter and yet, here we are, at the end of another 6 weeks. There are many changes afoot and we don’t quite know what they will be until after the General Election on June 8^th. If all remains equal, we know that schools are going to be subject to more funding cuts and we will have to make ends meet so, inevitably, that will impact on the school and families. As a consequence of these cuts we cannot afford to go to the seaside this year. The coaches are far too expensive and the cost, heavily subsidised by the school, outweighs the time spent travelling there and back and this is regrettable. The children will be going on a class outing instead.

The Key Stage 2 SATs are over and Yr 6 are preparing for visits to secondary schools. Meanwhile, Y2 children are currently taking their SATs tests and Yr 1 will be doing their Phonics Screening Check in the week beginning Monday 12^th June. We also want to ensure that as many of our Reception children achieve a ‘Good Level of Development’ so we can increase the % of achievement for the third year running. It is essential that you help your child with any work they bring home. Reading regularly at home, is the one thing that will ensure your children succeed in the education system. If they read well and understand what they are reading, they will be successful in the tests and across the curriculum. Your contribution to this is at the heart of this success. I know we are all busy but please find time in your routine to read with or listen to your children read every day and ask them questions about the stories they are reading. Please sign the reading diary daily.

Attendance

Our whole school attendance is almost excellent. Please make sure we keep it as high as possible. Individually you all contribute to this. Remember we will not sanction holidays during term time. Please do not book flights expecting the school to agree to an authorised absence.
