2nd February 2015

Dear Parents and Carers

We are now in the first week of February – doesn’t time fly? I can say we have made a good start to the spring term. Children are having some great experiences. There have been a number of trips out across all year groups from the theatre to sporting events.  I am pleased that the children are taking part so enthusiastically and it is reflected in the children’s work.  I walk around both schools all the time and behaviour for learning is very good.  Please make sure your children are reading as much as they can and don’t forget to fill in their reading record.  Likewise, getting children to recite and know their times tables is essential -only this weekend it was in the news.  Make time for these – it does make a difference and shows that school and families are working together!

First Holy Communion Programme

Thank you to those parents who came to the meeting last Wednesday.  I am sure you will agree your children are getting the best opportunity to prepare for Reconciliation and Holy Communion. The children are so innocent at every session they say the most beautiful things about God and their families. Out of the mouths of babes!

After School Clubs

We have made a great start with the after school clubs.  We are trying to give children as many positive and creative opportunities as we can.
I know some children didn’t get the club they wanted but there is a waiting list and we will strive to ensure everyone gets a chance at doing something.

Website

Don’t forget to look at our website www.stjosephs.southwark.sch.uk  and catch up with the latest news.  Can I ask you to look at TERMtalk and also the RE newsletters?  If you look at the Learning Resources section you will also find many sites that your child can use to help their learning from SATs revision (go to the Reference section) to cbbc.  Enjoy!

Writing Competition

How lucky are we?  28 of our pupils who entered the writing competition before Christmas will have their work published!  That is fantastic news!

Sickle Cell

Staff have had training regarding the needs of children with Sickle Cell.  If your child has Sickle Cell and you haven’t informed the school would you please do so as a

matter of urgency.  We do want to make the children as comfortable as possible

during the school day so they are able to learn at their best.

E Safety Training

Last Wednesday evening St Joseph’s staff joined the staff at Comber Grove for a session on E Safety.  Do you know what your children are looking at on the internet?  Do you have filters in place?  This is a growing area of concern! If you have any time this weekend go on to www.childnet.com for advice on how to keep your child safe.
