Year 4 - Multiplication Tables Check

10th February 2020

Dear Parents / Carers,

As some of you may be aware, the DFE have confirmed that all schools will be expected to administer a test called the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) to their year 4 pupils in June 2020.

The Multiplication Tables Check has been designed to help ensure that children in primary school know their times tables up to 12 off by heart. As well as being critical for everyday life, knowledge of multiplication tables helps children to solve problems quickly and flexibly, and allows them to tackle more complex mathematics later on in school.

The tests will take place between 8th June and 26th June 2020. The MTC is an online test, where pupils will be asked to answer 25 questions on times tables from two to 12. They will only be given six seconds to answer each question, with three seconds rest between each question, so the test should last less than five minutes. We have already been doing a great deal of work in Year 4 to prepare the children for the MTC, but each child needs to have regular practise at home, to ensure they are confident in their knowledge and understanding.

Please find a list of free websites, that your child can access, in order to practise and improve their rapid recall of their times tables:
