Southwark Local Offer Autumn 2018 Newsletter

Southwark Local Offer Autumn 2018 Newsletter

Autumn 2018
The Local Offer is a valuable resource for families and professionals offering information on the services and provisions available in Southwark for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25.

Short breaks are opportunities for children and young people with SEND to have time away from their families or primary carers, to relax and have fun.

They also provide parents and carers of disabled children with a necessary and valuable break from their caring responsibilities.

Parents of children and young people with SEND or Young People with SEND who live in Southwark can help shape the future of Short Breaks by attending one of our focus groupsÂ

The Government are extending the powers of the First-tier Tribunal (SEND), sometimes referred to as the SEND Tribunal™, to make non-binding recommendations about the health and social care aspects of Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans as part of a two-year trial.

Before April 2018, you were able to appeal the educational aspects of EHC plans. The trial gives you new rights to request recommendations about the health and social care needs and provision specified in EHC plans, in addition to the educational aspects, when making a SEND appeal. This will mean the Tribunal will take a more holistic, person-centred view of the needs of the child or young person.
